Club Foot

What is Club Foot?

Clubfoot is a birth defect in which a baby’s foot or feet turn inward. While the exact cause of this deformity is still unknown, babies of women who consume alcohol or smoke during pregnancies are at a higher risk of being born with a club foot. In some cases, the deformity is also a result of rare genetics.

Approximately one in every 1000 babies worldwide is born with club foot.

Though not painful, children born with clubfoot need early intervention to achieve growth milestones such as crawling and walking easily. Before the advancement of medical science, club feet were treated only with extensive surgical intervention.

However, today’s doctors try stretches, casts, splints, and special shoes before surgery to correct clubfoot.

While club foot surgeries do not cost more than INR 20000/-, those financially disadvantaged cannot afford the cost and are compelled to leave their babies untreated.

We at Mendonsa Foundation are committed to helping every child suffering from club feet walk the path towards a brighter future with help from magnanimous donors like you.
